Hi Folks,
First of all, thank you for all you’ve done this past year, our first year in business — without your support we could not have had the successful freshman year we did. We’re looking forward to 2023 and continuing to supply you with the best smoking experience in metro-Phoenix.
Here’s the news for January:
Cars & Cigars !
Join us from 10AM to 2PM on January 21st as we sponsor our first annual Cars & Cigars cars show! It will be held in our parking lot at Terravita Marketplace. We will have collectibles along with classic sports cars and exotics of all types for you to inspect and admire. We’re still arranging the line-up but you can be sure to see some Audi R8s, various tricked out Corvettes, and maybe even some Lamborghinis and Ferraris
The event is co-sponsored by Wicked Rhombus Racing, Collective Motoring, and Guiness. All proceeds benefit the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit.
Placensia Cigars
For years Placensia provided quality leaf and manufacturing to various other vendors but the company itself went under the cigar world radar. In 2017 the father-and-son team of Nestor and Andrés Plasencia sought to change that and stake their company’s claim as a premiere brand.
The Placensia line does just that. Their Alma Fuerte Generacion V was a top ten pick in Cigar Aficionado’s list of the year’s best in 2022 and scored a 92 on the Cigar Aficionado scale (if you don’t know what that is see the section below). We recently started carrying the full Plansensia line: the 146 and 149 Cosecha, the Alma de Campo, Alma del Fuego, and we feature the well reviewed box-pressed Alma Fuerte.
And we’re featuring the Alma Fuerte Natural Sixto I, their newest blend and size. Like all Alma Fuertes it is made with a ten-year aging process that imbues it with an even draw. Its Colorado Claro wrapper and box-pressed hexagonal shape create a taste with a tempered body; it has a distinct chocolate and nutmeg flavor profile with a delightful sweet finish.
The above mentioned Alma Fuerte Generacion V, a favorite at Hecho A Mano, is a saloman — a cigar that tapers and is narrow at the cap and larger at the head. it is a must try!
Padrons Are Here!
In Spanish padron means ‘pattern’; in Italian it means ‘master’. The entire product line certainly displays a pattern of masterful cigar-craft— the familiar light draw and spicy taste, the perfect burn every time. Padrons typically score in the low to mid-nineties on the Cigar Aficionado scale. We have the core line, the 2000, 3000, 5000 and 7000, along with the 1926, 1964, Family Reserve, and Damaso series.
If you’ve had them before you’ll be happy to find them here. And if you haven’t tried a Padron you are in for a treat!
The Playoffs Have Arrived! It’s the NFL Baby!
It’s that time of year — the endless election commercials followed by the endless holiday commercials are finally gone, and your television now displays that for which it was intended: playoff football! We have five large screens and excellent viewing from almost any angle in the place. We WILL be open for playoff games regardless of when they start or how long they run, and we have ice-cold beer on hand to enhance your viewing experience. Pro tip: cigars pair excellently with Guiness, which of course we have on tap.
FIY — The Cigar Aficionado Scale
Cigar Aficionado is the premiere magazine for cigar smokers in the English-speaking world. Its ratings scale is highly regarded and smokers and retailers alike wait every year for its ‘Cigar of Year’ winner and runner-ups. It’s scale is this:
- 95-100 = Classic and Excellent. The very best.
- 90-94 = Outstanding
- 80-89 = Very Good to Excellent
- 70-79 = Average to Good Commercial Quality
- 0-69 = Don’t Bother
Take care, and see you next month!
